Camp Swim

Why do we choose to add swimming to your child’s camp day?

Studies show that swim lessons offer children many benefits including;

  • decreased incidence of drowning
  • increased fitness
  • accelerated physical, intellectual and emotional development
  • better balance, strength and coordination
  • increased social confidence
  • swimming is a great activity for recreation that can be enjoyed by all ages

In other words….swimming is good for children. After all, “You can’t find a better sport to save your life”!

Camp Swim Lesson

Each day at Action Kids Summer Camp, all campers receive a structured swim lesson, taught by our WSI trained Water Wonders Swim School Instructors.
Students are grouped by age and skill level during camp instructional swim time.

We maintain low ratios in the pool, to ensure quality instruction and safety. Additionally during camp swim lessons there is always a lifeguard on duty.

We make every possible effort to provide the daily swim lesson and free swim time; however, if swimming must be cancelled due to unsafe conditions we do not provide a make-up.

Our pool is heated and warm all summer long. Kids will love it!

Open Swim

On a typical summer camp day, campers have the opportunity to enjoy some free time in the pool. Open swim is a big hit with all the campers. Not only is it a chance to play, but also a great way to re-enforce the skills the campers learned in swim class! Open Swim is supervised by Red Cross Certified Lifeguards and Camp Staff.

Instead of having a separate time for Open Swim, a designated “Free Swim” time will be incorporated into each camp group’s swim lesson. Most groups it is in the last 15 minutes of their 45-minute swim block.

The Open Swim ratio is 10:1, including certified lifeguards and camp staff.

Pool safety rules are reinforced daily. Weak/non swimmers are required to wear flotation devices while in Open Swim.

Camp Gymnastics/Ninja

Camp Gymnastics/Ninja

We like to say that gymnastics builds character, but it really builds much more than that. It builds stronger children in many amazing ways!

With benefits in balance, strength and agility, all campers will enjoy learning basic to advanced skills in a safe atmosphere. Each lesson is structured to meet the camp group’s skill level.

Activity Clubs

Four days a week, all campers participate in our Activity Clubs, which are designed to develop specific skills/interests.

Campers will choose from 2 or 3 activities in the mornings when arrive at their groups.

  • Active Club; provides campers with a fun cardio activity.
  • Curious Club; offers STEM based activities for campers.
  • Creative Club; introduces campers to various textures, techniques, and artistic materials.
  • Gamers Club; an opportunity to play board games or card games with other campers.
  • Cooking Club; Food Network Watch out….. Camp Cooks has better ratings!

Art

Creativity abounds at Brentwood Commons!

Each day our campers have many opportunities to express their creative side! All campers have a creative, theme-based art project built into their weekly schedules. Some projects are individual projects, while other days campers will work together to create a group project.

Older Campers are often involved in creating larger scale projects for the camp. LITs and Junior Counselors will be given a role in preparing for the events on Fun Friday’s.

Activity Clubs also offer campers an opportunity to flex their creative muscle — an inquisitive “Curious Kids Club” and an inspired “Creative Kids Club” are included in the daily programming.

Nature

Nature is an opportunity for campers to interact with the natural world around them through structured activity and guided lessons. During Nature, activities may include building birdhouses or learning about life under the ocean.  We also have a camp garden that campers help tend.  Campers will enjoy their Nature block in the Nature Nook.

Archery

Archery is taught for ALL full day camp groups! Certified archery instructors will introduce campers to basic archery skills. Curriculum includes safety training.

CAP (Creative Active Play)

Every day, each camp group will have a block for classic camp activities like fort building in the woods, GAGA ball, battling in Nerf Wars, scooter races, scavenger hunts, group challenges and more!

Outdoor Skills

Camp fire building, tent building, knot tying and more! Campers will get the chance to go back to their roots! Campers will learn new skills that they can bring to all of their outdoor adventures.

Games

The Game Zone and Sport Court are filled with team activities. Camp groups will enjoy learning new games and playing familiar ones. This block offers campers time to play together, enjoy cardio activities as well as skill development!

LCP (Let Campers Play)
